Who was Vincent Van Gogh?
Called simply as Van Gogh, this person was a Dutch painter and managed to be one of the main exponents of post-impressionism. Born on March 30, 1853 and died on July 29, 1890, he painted some 800 paintings, including watercolors (43) and self-portraits (148) and some 1,600 drawings.
His work was recognized after his death, in a retrospective exhibition in 1890, and he is currently considered one of the great masters in the history of painting. Sadly, he spent his last years suffering from permanent psychiatric problems, which led him to voluntarily confine himself in mental hospitals.
There is a general trend that speculates that his mental illnesses influenced his painting, however, art critic Robert Hughes firmly believes that Van Gogh’s works are executed under complete control of his instincts.
