Valencia sanction Spanish footballer Rafa Mir after being accused of sexual assault

The Spanish football club Valencia announced on Monday the opening of a disciplinary file against his attacker Rafa Mirsuspected of committing a sexual assault in late August.

“Valencia CF wishes to reiterate its firm condemnation “against all forms of violence, in any of its manifestations, while respecting the presumption of innocence,” the historic club, bottom of the Spanish first division after four games, wrote in a statement.

“It is only Justice that must set the pace” and the actions regarding the substance of the alleged events” for which the 27-year-old player is being investigated, the statement said.

However, “within the scope of its powers”, Valencia CF decided to “open a file on Rafa Mir, considering that his behavior during his time off unquestionably affects the professional performance expected of him,” the club continued, without specifying what sanctions the file entails.

Rafa Mir was arrested on the night of September 2 following a complaint of sexual assault filed against him and another person by two women.

According to Spanish media, The incident took place at the 27-year-old player’s home.

After appearing before a judge, The player was released on bail on bail.

In July, Valencia announced the return of Rafa Mir, who was trained at the club, on loan with an option to buy from Sevilla, where he had been playing since 2021.
