Diving into the paradigms of one’s own existence and seek the beauty within oneself, to be able to transmit it to others. That was what Roberto Valcárcel proposed in each of his works, the man who transformed the visual arts in Bolivia and who died in 2021, a victim of Covid-19.

This Friday, August 19, the artist would be 71 years old, reason more than enough to be honored and remembered with ehe premiere of Valcárcel, the documentary, which will be screened at 5:00 p.m., at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Sucre Street, on the corner of Potosí.

Written and directed by journalist and documentarian Roberto Dottithe audiovisual narrates, in 62 minutes, the life and work of Bolivia’s most contemporary artist.

“Valcárcel has been a mentor and a reference, there are several generations of contemporary artists who have been influenced by his work, just as he himself was influenced by other artists of his time, of course. Nevertheless, the legacy he leaves is vast and worthy of continuing to try to deepen in his work”, comments Dotti.

The director anticipates that the work includes the testimony of various characters who knew Valcárcel, who give important information about what he was like, how he thought and the value of his work and his intellectual production.

“The documentary gives keys so that whoever sees it can understand, discover and rediscover passages of their thoughts and experiences. There are valuable testimonies from his environment and from those who worked with him, ”he adds.

The general production of Valcárcel, the documentary is from El Viento, which previously produced the documentary on the life of Gladys Moreno. The edition and photography is in charge of Claudia Elder; the musical composition is by Oscar Kellemberger Bretel; the sound and mastering, by So Myung Jung and the aerial images are Pablo Dotti, while the author of the official poster is the artist Alfredo Román Bulacio.

The documentary it can also be seen on Saturday 20, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 August in the same placery on Tuesday, August 30 at the Center for Plurinational Culture (CCP).

In La Paz its exhibition is confirmed for September 9 at the Cinemateca and other dates are to be confirmed at the Government headquarters and in Cochabamba for the coming months.
