The teachers consider it unfair to make the payment of the 2023 vacation bonus based on last year’s salary, which was not increased by President Nicolás Maduro on May 1. Public administration teachers classify the calculation of the vacation bonus based on the current salary as an “act that violates fundamental rights, verifiable oppression, and discrimination for the Venezuelan teachers.”
There are only a few weeks left until the end of the 2022-2023 school year and uncertainty reigns among public administration teachers on how the payment of the vacation bonus will be made.
In a statement from the organization Union Leaders Training (Fordisi), warned that the bonus that the Government will pay to teachers “It will constitute a real nonsense.” The organization recalled that this bonus is calculated based on the salary of March 2022 that was not increased in the most recent monthly income adjustment of the Government, which would represent “an act that violates fundamental rights, of verifiable oppression and discrimination for the Venezuelan teachers.”
This implies that the Government pays the same amount as last year, in the midst of a context of “brutal hyperinflationary volatility”. Fordisi recalled the street fight that had to be undertaken last year to achieve full payment of the vacation bonus.

Now, the teachers reject that Nicolás Maduro asked the workers to resist on May 1st. “He admitted that corruption had to do with the impossibility of being able to grant an expected general increase in wages”add the text.
They point out that the real problem is “helplessness, the inability of the signatories to assume the role that corresponds to them, with commitment, firmness, loyalty, combative attitude, fighting spirit.”
“The pertinent demands and claims by the National Union Coalition of the Teachers Guild conspicuous by their absence,” added Fordisi. They also recalled that “with or without a blockade” the State is obliged to guarantee a sufficient salary in accordance with article 91 of the Constitution”.
For teachers, it is unfair to make the payment of the 2023 vacation bonus based on last year’s salary, since state companies bill public services with dollarized ratesas is the case of telephony and electricity.
They also warned that, as in previous years, vacations will not be enough for many teachers to pay debts, including utility bills, as well as for recreation.
