To date, two training courses have been developed in “multi-jobs” aimed at people with high social vulnerability and who live on the streets. 24 participants, out of a total of 40, completed and passed the course taught by UTU teachers in the areas of electricity, sanitation and masonry.
Rosa Méndez, director of the Mides Sociocultural Area, told Informative Uruguay that within the population served by the Mides, homeless people are the ones who have the most difficulties in sustaining training. For this reason they are given an accompaniment to help them finish the course. It is very important to get the diploma that accredits your knowledge to be able to later get job placement.
The director of Mides added that “in mid-June another batch of training courses in multi-trades will begin for more users of Mides, from other groups, not just homeless people. It is open to other groups: women, youth, the trans population, migrants and Afro-descendants. It is important that the people who entered the Utu courses be given support during the two months of the training course and also later, in an accompaniment in the labor insertion. Some have already passed to the Accesos del Mides program and others have already started working on their own,” said Méndez.
Between now and the end of the year, 80 multi-trade training slots will be opened, in 4 groups, 2 of them will open in June for users of various programs of the Ministry of Social Development.
