UTU expands its educational offer in 2023

The courses cover the area of ​​technologies, cybersecurity, services, production processes and automotive mechanics. In addition, the Integrated Curricular Transformation will be implemented at the three educational levels and there will be new guidelines at the Basic Vocational Training level.

In dialogue with Presidential Communication, the general director of UTU, Juan Pereyra, informed that the educational offer for 2023 in Basic Secondary Education, Upper Secondary Education and Tertiary Education contain the traditional courses of the institution, but also others focused on new technologies , developments and current requirements.

He explained that courses in gastronomy and automotive mechanics will be incorporated in Higher Secondary Education and in Tertiary Education a Cybersecurity technique will begin to function, in collaboration with the Agency for Electronic Government and the Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic) and the Faculty of Engineering from the University of the Republic. In addition, with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, they are working on the implementation of an equine production technique, he specified.

Pereyra indicated that it is planned to expand the Technological Baccalaureate in Bilingual Informatics to other cities in the interior of the country, which is currently only taught in Montevideo and Paysandú.

The hierarch pointed out that progress is being made in the areas of electric mobility and logistics to extend its educational offer and that from March 1 the institution will have a new center in Termas de Guaviyú created through an agreement signed with the Paysandú Municipality that establishes that the 50 cabins and the restaurant of the tourist center are managed by students of the UTU of that locality.

He informed that those interested in accessing the various educational proposals should be scheduled for registration through the site Web Institutional from Wednesday, December 7. There are two registration periods 2023 for Basic and Higher Secondary Education in December: from Monday 12 to Thursday 29 and in February from Monday 13.

He highlighted that the enrollment has been maintained in recent years, but the composition has changed; it decreased in Secondary Education and increased in Tertiary Education, from 10,000 students in 2021 to 16,000 in 2022, due to the variety of offers and the inclusion of the virtual modality in courses and careers.

Lastly, he referred to the María Espínola centers. He pointed out that there are currently 16 and that another seven are expected to be incorporated in 2023. They offer 8-hour days, in which students take subjects, participate in workshops, do sports, receive tutorials, support hours and food, with the aim of objective of improving the learning, journey and graduation of those who are in a situation of educational and social vulnerability.
