Utopix documented 15 femicides in degree of frustration and a total of 10 femicides of Venezuelans abroad, specifically in Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, and Peru. The NGO considers it “essential” to develop a “Feminist Emergency Plan” for the prevention, attention and mitigation of gender violence against women, girls and adolescents

In Venezuela, 17 femicides were registered during the month of February, which increased to 30 the number of femicides during the first two months of the year, according to a Utopix NGO reportbroadcast this Wednesday, March 22.

This is equivalent to the murder of a woman every 46 hours at the hands of men who belonged to the environments of the victims, the NGO highlighted in its report. “We continue to alert and see with concern that there is no concrete proposal from the State to face this problem that structurally affects the country.”

The NGO explained that three of the femicides were registered in the Bolívar state, in the south of the country, followed by the Miranda, Trujillo, Zulia and Barinas regions, with two cases each.

Six of the femicides, the report continues, were carried out with firearms, in three cases bladed weapons were used, on two occasions the cause of death was blows and in another three the women died from mechanical suffocation.

In addition, Utopix recorded one death due to obstetric violence, one caused by fire and another in which the victim was run over.

Of the victims, nine were mothers, which leaves a balance of 13 orphaned minors, while two others were pregnant. They also documented 15 femicides in a degree of frustration and a total of 10 femicides of Venezuelans abroad, specifically in Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, and Peru.

Regarding the attackers, the organization reported that of the 22 homicides, 11 are in prison, five fled, three committed suicide and there is no information on the remaining three.

According to Utopix, at least 236 women died at the hands of feminicides in Venezuela in 2022, and only last December 25 women were killed by men who knew them. The NGO considers it “essential” to develop a “Feminist Emergency Plan” for the prevention, care and mitigation of gender violence against women, girls and adolescents.
