The project presented by the ruling party, which already has half a sanction, eliminates the participation of teachers, workers and businessmen in the management of the university institution, passing to the Executive Power the power to direct it directly. For the president of the Utec (Situtec) union, Marcelo Ubal, this can be very negative: “if there is an investigation that is relevant to society but is not convenient for a company or for some corporate interest, or for the government itself, the government may veto or simply not make that information public.”
In the justification of reasons for the law that eliminates co-government in Utec is the search to modernize the legislation but for Ubal this is “false”. The leader argues that they have done “a survey of international bibliography and exactly what shows that the current law, as it is planned with representation of students, teachers, workers and businessmen, is much more in tune with international experience than this one where the government defines the totality of those who direct the institution”.
For his part, Marcelo Abdala, president of the Pit-Cnt, expressed the center’s full support for the Situtec workers: “from the point of view of the world of work, building spaces of democratic depth in education, it seems to us that it builds to educational knowledge, having co-government of the different orders”.
The Utec union collected 2,000 signatures to oppose the approval of the government project and they do not rule out filing an appeal for unconstitutionality if it is approved.
The project was presented by the Executive Power on August 29 and the approval in the lower house was on Tuesday, October 12, after two instances of discussion in the Education and Culture Commission of Deputies.
