The Union of Education Workers (UTE) called for a teaching strike for this Thursday against “the violation of labor rights conquereds historically” by the workers and in rejection of the holding of the EMI Conference on Saturdays, a measure recently taken by the Buenos Aires Government.

This was stated by the teaching union through a statement, where it decided for the Thursday September 22 convene a coupleor, after the Primary, Curricular, Media, Technical, Adult, Artistic and Higher plenary sessions, which ended on Tuesday with a “collective debate process”.

In this sense, the organization announced that it will carry out “decentralized activities” throughout the City of Buenos Aires “against the subjugation of the rights historically conquered by the workers and for respect for the teaching workday from Monday to Friday”.

According to the details, the schedule of activities will have a “traffic light and public class” at 11 in Acoyte and Rivadavia; in addition to various “traffic lights” at different intersections in the city of Buenos Aires around noon.

There will also be a caravan that will move from the corner of Varela and Cruz, to La Rioja and Caseros.

There will also be open radios and activities for children.

On Monday, UTE began a round of Plenary Sessions of Delegates by areas, levels and modalities, in the face of “the violation of the rights historically conquered by teaching”, after the Buenos Aires government decided to move the EMI sessions to Saturdays.

“It was suggested that this same measure seeks to gradually eliminate the spaces for debate, pedagogical discussion and training located in schools,” they had stated.

In mid-September, the government of the city of Buenos Aires announced that “the days that students lose due to teacher training sessions, which are called Spaces for Institutional Improvement (EMI), are going to be reduced and to date with class suspension.

“Starting in 2023, three of the five EMI conferences will be held on Saturdays. This decision implies an additional investment from the City to face the extra payment to all teachers,” the Buenos Aires government said in a statement.
