USMA Adopts International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Definition of Anti-Semitism

The Catholic University of Santa María la Antigua (USMA) today adopted the definition of Anti-Semitism of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), becoming the first house of higher education in Panama to join this initiative. that has been welcomed in countries, organizations, associations and student groups, among others.

Alan Perelis, president of the Panamanian Jewish Congress and member of the Advisory Committee of the Commissioner for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism in the Americas – OEA, participated in the event, who recognized the significance of the adoption by an academic institution attached to the Catholic Church .

For the magnificent rector of the USMA, Prof. Francisco Blanco L., with the adoption of this definition, the university sends a message of its commitment to respect for human rights, coexistence, religious tolerance and rejection of any form of discrimination. In addition, the importance of Judeo-Christian dialogue and Judeo-Christian cooperation in the world is reaffirmed. The Israeli ambassador in Panama, Itai Bardov, thanked the USMA for adopting this resolution, recalling that anti-Semitism not only affects the Jewish community, but that it is a problem of society.

The activity was carried out at the USMA and had the special participation of students from the Isaac Rabin College. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance is an international organization founded in 1998 that brings together experts and governments to strengthen, advance and promote Holocaust education, research and remembrance around the world.
