USAID director highlights PN advances

Directora de Usaid destaca avances PN

The director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Rebecca Latorracasaid that civil society sees the National Police as a more professional, transparent and legitimate body.

He assured that this entity will support the Government in seeking to achieve a future free of violence.
During a workshop with the International Assistance Program for Training in Criminal Investigation (Icitap) on the “Program for Institutional Strengthening and Transparency for the Transformation of the Police”, he cited among the successes the creation of the Network of Managers of Peaceful Coexistence that strengthens collaboration between institutions and the community.

This, in order to promote the culture of peace, is part of the Comprehensive Citizen Security Strategy “My Safe Country”.

Thanks Collaboration

The Minister of the Interior and Police, Jesus Vasquez, He thanked the collaboration of USAID and the International Assistance Program for Training in Criminal Investigation (ICITAP), which, according to what he said, has allowed the body of order today to have a comprehensive management system that includes models that make it possible to advance in the development and institutional legitimacy and thereby consolidate the effectiveness of the police service and confidence in the agents.

Police Director, Major General Eduardo Alberto Thenexplained the progress that the institution has achieved thanks to the support of the development agency.

Samuel Columbus, Director of the Western Hemisphere of ICITAP, highlighted that among the achievements of the program there is also the Comprehensive Police Planning System and the Comprehensive Strategy for Attention to Women and Domestic Violence.

The deputy ministers were Mercedes Pérez, of Preventive Security in Vulnerable Sectors; Ángela Jáquez, from Preventive Security in Provincial Governments and Fernando Nolberto, from Citizen Coexistence; also, José Vila del Castillo, commissioner for Police Reform; Servio Tulio Castaños Guzmán, Vice President of the Institutional and Justice Foundation (Finjus) and Víctor Benavides, Director of the Ministerial Cabinet.
