Gun Violence Archive (the Gun Violence Archive), a nonprofit organization that tracks shootings in the country, has counted 246 mass shootings in the United States so far in 2022. More than 18,700 people have lost their lives due to armed violence in 2022, according to this source.

The Archive considers mass shootings those in which four or more people are killed by firearms in the same place.

Such incidents have been on the rise. In fact, there were 13 mass shootings over the weekend, less than two weeks after a teenage gunman killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. It was the deadliest school shooting since Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.

The United States has much laxer firearms laws and policies than other countries.

Firearms laws and regulations vary from state to state, with some having more restrictive laws, others allowing much higher rates of firearm ownership for protection and hunting.

From last Friday to Sunday, at least 17 people died from firearms in the United States, in the deadliest weekend of mass shootings this year. In Philadelphia; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Saginaw, Michigan; Omaha, Nebraska; and other towns and cities there were desperate shootings.

“America’s gun violence crisis was on full display this weekend, an emergency crying out for a solution that we know exists,” said Kris Brown, president of Brady, a gun violence prevention group.
