The wildfires in the United States, combined with the near elimination of coronavirus restrictions, caused air pollution levels in the country to return to pre-pandemic levels in 2021.
This was revealed by a report published today by IQAir, a Swiss company that monitors air quality around the world.
The report underlines that the United States, as a whole, saw a 7% increase in fine particulate matter air pollution in 2021, compared to the previous year.
Seven of the 10 most populous cities in the United States returned to pre-pandemic air pollution levels.
The exceptions are Dallas, Miami and Washington DC.
