White House National Security spokesman John Kirby warned President Nicolas Maduro on Friday that the United States could impose more sanctions against Venezuelan officials “if he does not do the right thing” by publishing disaggregated data from the July 28 presidential election.
“We have issued sanctions. We are not going to rule out anything in the future,” Kirby said in a telephone press conference, where he stressed that Maduro “has options and decisions” that only he can make; the first of which must be to make public all the information by table and voting centers “so that everyone can see how those elections were conducted and how and to what extent the will of the Venezuelan people was really fulfilled.”
He stressed that the State Department had banned the entry of officials “aligned” with those in power in Venezuela, who have been implicated in undermining the electoral process and repressing citizens. However, he did not say who he was referring to.

Hours earlier, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the U.S. cannot stand idly by while electoral irregularities are committed and the population is violently repressed, while emphasizing the commitment of Joe Biden’s administration to defend democratic values in the Western Hemisphere.
He stressed that they took two essential measures: one, sanctions against 16 officials and the other, visa restrictions linked to the current crisis. In this regard, he said that there are currently more than 140 sanctioned officials and 2,000 who do not have a visa.
They also joined the position of 49 countries that demand the publication of disaggregated data and reject the arrest warrant against Edmundo González Urrutia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Thursday, September 12 in which it rejects the most recent sanctions imposed by the United States Department of the Treasury (US) where 16 officials of the Nicolás Maduro administration are penalized for their connection with the “electoral fraud” of July 28.
In the text, released by Telegram, Venezuela warns the US that it is violating what was agreed in Qatar – parallel talks to the Barbados Agreement carried out by emissaries from Caracas and Washington – which would be seeking to impose “a change of regime” in the country.
They therefore stress that little can be expected from a country like the United States, described as “the most hostile and bloodthirsty power that humanity has ever known,” which would be ignoring international law with “coercive, unilateral, illegitimate and illegal” measures to be in line with the Venezuelan opposition that wants to “overthrow” the current administration.
