The agricultural sector needs to urgently approve the new Agrarian law To counteract the impact that tariffs imposed by the United States will have, said the president of the Association of Agrarian Producing Guilds of Peru (Agap), Gabriel Amaro.
“Tariffs affect agro -export, so it is extremely important to have this regulatory framework that allows us to increase employment and agro -exports,” he said in dialogue with Peru21.
It should be noted that, at the end of 2020, Parliament approved the repeal of the Agrarian Promotion Law, which, among other things, allowed to improve the working conditions of the sector, which also increased formalization.
According to figures from the Peruvian Institute of Economics (IPE), before being repealed, the standard allowed the number of salaried workers in the sector from 80,000 in 2007 to 210,000 in 2019.
Meanwhile, the minimum daily remuneration for those who worked more than four hours a day increased from S/36.29 to S/39.19, including the payment of bonuses and compensation for time of services (CTS).
Gabriel Amaro explained that when the standard was repealed, the sector lost more than 10% of formality that it had achieved. This was added, he explained, to the fact that the possibility of investments was lost.
“In the debate in the Plenary of Congress, the benefits were not mentioned.
