Santo Domingo.-The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, will arrive today to the country shortly after his government announced his contribution to the multinational security mission for Haiti (MMS).
The visit to the Dominican Republic of the US official has a special meaning for being the only country that has a land border with Haiti, immersed in a socioeconomic crisis.
Through a statement, the Dominican government said that the suspension of funds for the multinational mission of support for security in Haiti, in the United States, can be part of the global freezing of the international assistance of that country.
The Government expects that after review of the assistance programs, the United States will maintain those that are justified, as in the case of Haiti.
He added that, in terms of the MMS, international funds are essential for their operation, whose mission is key to containing the expansion of drug trafficking and transnational organized crime linked to the crisis in Haiti.
Visit
Rubio, who culminates his journey in the Dominican Republic after visiting Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Guatemala, plans to arrive tonight through the Internations of the Americas.
Until the closing of this edition, the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the United States Embassy in the country did not share details of the visit.
However, Marco Rubio will be received tomorrow at the National Palace by President Luis Abinader.
Last Monday, Abinader reported that he will talk with Rubio on the suspension of the aid of the International Development Agency (USAID). “There are some programs that affect the Dominican Republic and we are concerned about some that affect Haiti in terms of food,” he said.
He added that, in case of suspending a program, the government will take the necessary measures, since the help received from that body is not something that the State cannot correct.

Effective El Salvador give support to Haitians
Cooperation. Some 70 troops from El Salvador arrived in Puerto Príncipe yesterday to join the multinational security support in Haiti (MMS), led by Kenya, with the end of the United Nations and with the aim of helping to stop violence in the country.
The military arrived at the Toussaint Louverture airport from the Haitian capital, where they were received by Leslie Voltaire, who heads the Haitian Transition Presidential Council.
He was also at the El Comandante in Chief of the Mission, Godfrey Otunga, along with the ambassadors of France and Canada in Haiti, Antoine Michon and André François Guiroux.
