US oil closes above 90 per dollar for the first time since 2014

The price of barrel of petroleum US WTI exceeded 90 dollars a barrel on Thursday for the first time in seven years, supported by the fall of the dollar and the boreal winter that has become quite harsh in the United States.

In New York, the reference barrel “light sweet” (WTI) for delivery in March surpassed, for the first time since the winter of 2014, the mark of 90 dollars, ending at 90.27 dollars, an increase of 2.27 percent.

On his side, in London the price of a barrel of North Sea Brent for April delivery rose 1.83% to $91.11.

The oil prices They exhibited a calm behavior at the beginning of the session after the expected decision of the day before by the 23 members of the OPEC + alliance to maintain a prudent pace in the increase of its total production level of 400,000 barrels per day for the month of March.

But its rise was “precipitated by the falling dollar,” explained John Kilduff of Again Capital.

Indeed, the euro has jumped this Thursday against the dollar driven by the change in tone of the European Central Bank (ECB), which, for the first time, opened the door to a possible rise in its reference rate this year.
