Illegal coercive measures were imposed against members of the CNE, TSJ, National Assembly, Public Ministry and security agencies
The United States Government (USA) announced new unilateral and illegal coercive measures against at least 16 Venezuelan officials, confirming its rejection of the results of the elections of July 28, which declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner.
In a press releaseThe US Treasury Department announced the measure, stating that it is in response to alleged “electoral fraud.”
In the text, the entity admitted that it is targeting officials in the country who were related to the electoral process and ratified the victory of the head of state, despite it being the decision of the majority of Venezuelans who exercised their right to vote.
Illegal coercive measures were imposed against members of the National Electoral Council (CNE), the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), the National Assembly, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and security agencies.
The officials include the president of the TSJ, magistrate Caryslia Rodríguez; the rector of the CNE, Rosalba Gil; the first vice president of the National Assembly, Pedro Infante; as well as the prosecutor of the Public Ministry, Luis Duenez.
The Venezuelan government has repeatedly denounced US interference in the country’s internal affairs and its participation in coup plans promoted by sectors of the extreme right.
Faced with this new illegal action by the US Administration, Venezuela stated his rejection and stressed that it is further evidence of “his total disregard for international law, the self-determination of peoples and the democratic will of the Venezuelan people.”
