US imposes visa restrictions on Palestinian officials for “support for terrorism”

US imposes visa restrictions on Palestinian officials for "support for terrorism"

The US government announced on Thursday new visa restrictions against Palestinian members and officials of course “support for terrorism,” the agency said EFE.

The measure affects both Members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as to the Palestinian National Authority (ANP)in retaliation for what the United States considers breaches of diplomatic commitments and initiatives that “undermine peace perspectives.”

“The State Department considers that it is of interest to the US National Security to impose consequences and hold the PLO and the ANP responsible for not fulfilling its commitments and undermine the peace prospects,” said the official statement.

As a result, “the United States will impose sanctions that deny the visa to members of the PLU and ANP officials”, although the statement does not specify which people directly refers.

According to Washington, both the OLP and the Palestinian authority – which governs the West Bank – “do not comply with their commitments” stipulated in US laws of 1989 and 2002, which condition the bilateral relationship to the fulfillment of commitments related to the peace process in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, supported by the United States Israel continues to systematically bombard the Gaza Strip and has caused the death of more than 60,000 Palestinians Since October 2023, most women and children.

The State Department accuses these entities of “promoting and supporting actions in international organizations that undermine and contradict previous commitments”, referring to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (CIJ), where the Palestinians have raised complaints against Israel.

Likewise, the statement affirms that “they continue to support terrorism – including the enhancement of violence, especially in textbooks – and providing payments and benefits in support of terrorist activities to Palestinians involved in terrorism and their families.”

USA in the midst of growing genocide pressure in Gaza

These measures are announced in a context of strong international pressure on Israel due to the serious humanitarian crisis facing the Gaza Stripwhere in recent days an increase in death -related deaths has been reported.

France, the United Kingdom and Canada have expressed in recent days their intention to officially recognize the Palestinian State Before the United Nations in response to the humanitarian situation in Gaza, a decision that the Israeli government has rejected by considering it a “support for Hamas.”

From Jerusalem, President Donald Trump defended Thursday that the “faster” way to resolve the humanitarian crisis is the surrender of the Palestinian Islamist group and the liberation of Israeli hostages that still keeps captive.

The statements were produced while the United States special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is an official visit in Jerusalem, where he will hold meetings with high Israeli charges to address the stage in the Gaza Strip.

Besides, Trump warned Canada that his decision to recognize the Palestinian State “makes it very difficult” to reach a bilateral commercial agreementjust when the deadline of August 1 is approaching for the expiration of the tariff truce imposed by its administration to several strategic partners.
