Santo Domingo.– Within the framework of the 16 days of activism against Gender Violencethe Government of the United States, through the Agency of the USA for International Development (USAID), reaffirmed its support for the fight against gender violence by signing a new agreement with the Board of Assistance against Cases of Battered Women (PACAM).

Through this agreement, PACAM will provide psychological support to victims of gender violence, their families and high-risk populations, with the objective of impacting approximately 200 people. In addition, training is contemplated to strengthen the capacities of justice sector personnel who work with victims of gender violence.
Recently, PACAM, together with the Care Units Integral to Victims of Violence GenderDomestic and Sexual Crimes of the Public Ministry, trained 50 prosecutors and lawyers in the specialized course: “Operation of gender and domestic violence.”
During the signing of the agreement, the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Santo DomingoPatricia Aguilera, highlighted the achievements of PACAM and reiterated the commitment of the United States Government to continue working with Dominican entities against this problem that affects so many families nationwide.

For her part, the president of the PACAMSoraya Lara said: “Having the support of the United States Embassy reinforces our mission in providing emotional support to women victims of intimate partner violence and their children.”
Present at the signing were the director of USAID in the country, Rebeca Latorraca; Lissette Dumit, senior advisor for Citizen Security and the State of Right from USAID; Lynette Batista and Michel Camacho, director and deputy director of the project Justice and Security from USAID; On behalf of PACAM there were: Betania Cruz, Yanira Lara, and Wilmara Vásquez, vice president, executive director and project manager of PACAM, respectively.
This event took place in the offices of the PACAM and represents a joint effort between the cooperation and the private sector, whose purpose focuses on contributing to the eradication of the crime of gender violence that mainly violates the rights of women and has a negative impact on the Dominican society.
