US Government Calls for 2026 Visa Lottery

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The United States government announced the call for Diversity Visa Program for 2026 (DV-2026), whose registration link will be enabled from October 5 to November 9, 2024.

The Diversity Visa Program, popularly known as the Visa Lotteryaims to randomly provide permanent residence or Green Cards to foreigners from countries with low migration rates to the United States.

Registration will be done through the official website known as Diversity Visa, according to the instructive of the procedure.

Once done, the confirmation number must be saved. record to check the status of the application.

The Visa Lottery establishes eligibility criteria for applicants. These include being a citizen of a country with a low rate of immigration to the U.S.; having 12 years of primary and secondary education or its equivalent; having at least two years of work experience, within the last five years, in an eligible occupation.

Once the results are announced, those who applied should check to see if they have been selected to receive a Green Card. In this case, the State Department does not notify winners individually, so beneficiaries should access the program’s official website to check their status.

The Visa Lottery system, known in Cuba as the bombo and in other countries as the green card, makes it possible to live and work legally and permanently in the United States.

Applications for the 2025 program were open from October 4 to November 7, 2023.

This has become one of the main avenues for legal immigration to the United States.

In 2024, as in previous years, the program granted 55,000 permanent residence visas to people from all over the world. Of a total of 3,150 granted to South America and the Caribbean, Cuba was the country in the region that received the most visas.
