The US Department of State approved the extradition of the former president Alexander Toledoaccused of receiving US$35 million in bribes from the construction company Odebrecht and who has been a fugitive in the North American country since 2017.

“The Prosecutor’s Office, as the central authority in matters of extraditions, informs that it has been learned that the Department of State of the United States of America granted the extradition of Alexander Toledofor the crimes of collusion and money laundering,” reported the Public Ministry.
In addition, they affirmed that the Office for International Judicial Cooperation and Extraditions of the National Prosecutor’s Office has been coordinating with national and foreign authorities for the upcoming execution of their extradition.

In November 2021, California Judge Thomas Hixon approved the extradition of Toledo Manrique after concluding that the evidence presented by the Peruvian State in the Interoceánica Sur case was corroborated.
Thanks to this ruling, the judicial stage ended and it depended solely on the United States government to ratify the ruling.
The Public Prosecutor charges Alexander Toledo of having received bribes from Odebrecht through the accounts of businessman Josef Maiman, who in turn transferred the money to offshore accounts owned by Eva Fernenbug, the former head of state’s mother-in-law.
