US ends search for wreckage of downed Chinese balloon

“Recovery operations cThey concluded on February 16 off the coast of South Carolina, after Navy assets assigned to US Northern Command successfully located and recovered the remains of the PRC high-altitude surveillance balloon,” Northcom said in a statement, referring to the PRC.

The balloon traveled across much of the United States before being shot down over the Atlantic Ocean by an American F-22 Raptor fighter on February 4.

Beijing insisted it was a lost weather observation device, while Washington described it as a sophisticated high-altitude spy vehicle.

The relationships between China and the United States have become increasingly tense over the balloon incident.
