Today, Thursday, the United States Embassy in Havana announced that it will soon open visa appointments for immediate family members, including spouses and children under 21 years of age, of US citizens.

The measure complements a statement from last month announcing that the processing of all IR-5 cases (that is, parents of US citizens) would begin to carry out their interviews in Havana.

Today’s announcement expands that service to family members such as spouses and sons/daughters of US citizens: “We chose the immediate family categories in recognition of the importance of family reunification to US citizens and their immediate family members. Although we understand that other applicants may have difficult circumstances, given the current circumstances, the United States Embassy in Havana is still unable to accept transfer requests from other visa categories. And later, it specifies: “While we work to expand services, the United States Embassy in Georgetown, Guyana, will continue to be the main processing location for all Cuban citizens of family preference immigrant visas and cases of immediate relatives. that are already scheduled for processing at the US Embassy in Guyana.

Those selected will have their consular interview in July of this year, the statement stressed.
