SLP, Mexico.- The United States Embassy in Havana announced, through its social networks, modifications in immigrant and non-immigrant visa services.
As read in the release issued by the diplomatic headquarters, for the month of November, all services immigrant and non-immigrant visa applications will be rescheduled for a future date.
According to the information, applicants will be contacted to reschedule their appointments. They also asked not to call the embassy to obtain information about rescheduling visa appointments.
“Information about rescheduled appointments will be provided directly to applicants,” they said.
Postponed services include interviews and document review. So far the reason why the processes will be rescheduled is not specified.
In August, the United States Embassy in Havana advertisement an expansion in its consular services, specifically in the issuance of visas, to allow a greater number of Cuban citizens to access interviews to obtain non-immigrant visas directly in the Cuban capital.
Among the new categories of visas available in Havana were those for temporary workers or apprentices; Exchange visitors, Transfers within the same company, Workers with extraordinary abilities or achievements; Athletes, artists and entertainers; Participants in international cultural exchange programs; and Members of a religious denomination who perform religious work. This wide range of options represents an opportunity for many Cubans seeking access to the United States for work, cultural or religious reasons.
However, this change did not affect nonimmigrant visas for people who wish to enter the United States temporarily for business (B-1 visa) or for tourism (B-2 visa). For these cases, Cuban applicants will continue to have to travel to another US embassy or consulate in a third country to complete the application process.
