US Embassy in Cuba will answer immigration questions

MIAMI, United States.- The United States embassy in Cuba announced on Facebook that tomorrow, Friday, October 7, it will answer questions about the full resumption of visa services that will begin to be offered in early 2023.

“Join the Facebook Live chat from the US Embassy in Cuba this Friday, October 7, 1:00-2:00 pm, about the full resumption of visa services for immigrants in Havana at the beginning of 2023. Our consular team will answer your questions!” reads the publication.

Just a few weeks ago, the US agency announced that for the first time since 2017 it would resume all services for processing immigrant visas on the island at the beginning of next year.

“As part of the expansion of regular pathways, beginning in early 2023, the United States Embassy in Havana will resume full processing of immigrant visas for the first time since 2017,” the statement said, which further established the the country’s commitment to “facilitate safe, orderly, humane and regular migration”.

The measure was announced shortly after the figures of the Cuban exodus were known during between October 2021 and August 2022, a period in which almost 200,000 people from the island entered the United States through the border, according to data from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The US Embassy in Havana also announced in September that it would continue to provide essential services for US citizens, immigrant visa services for those applying in the immediate relative categories, and limited emergency nonimmigrant visa processing.

With respect to the Cuban Family Reunification-Parole Program (CFRP) resumed in August 2022, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is increasing the number of personnel in Cuba to process cases of efficiently and effectively and conduct interviews.

“These efforts are a key step in meeting the U.S. commitment under the U.S.-Cuba Migration Agreements to ensure that total legal migration to the United States from Cuba is a minimum of 20,000 Cubans every year. year, not including immediate family members of US citizens. The State Department continues to evaluate further expanding visa services in Havana as conditions allow.”
