MIAMI, United States. — The United States Embassy in Cuba denounced the Castro regime for the repression and demanded the release of at least 40 Cubans who have been detained for protesting in the streets against the blackouts.

The diplomatic headquarters indicated on social networks that the island’s government must respect and fulfill the freedom demands of the Cuban people, victim of an unprecedented crisis that seems to have no end.

“The Cuban people are fed up with blackouts, hunger and repression when they demand their well-deserved freedom,” said the US Embassy publication.

The US representation in Cuba also called on the island’s authorities to respect the basic rights and freedoms of Cubans, alluding to the recent arrests of peaceful protesters.

“We demand that the Cuban government guarantee the right to peaceful assembly, respond with respect to its citizens and release the 40 detained protesters,” said the tweet from the diplomatic headquarters.

For its part, the Cuban regime continues to blame the US embargo for the serious crisis in the Caribbean country.

This Saturday, the ruler Miguel Diaz-Canel He assured that the crisis of blackouts suffered by Cubans “has to do with the systematic effects that the blockade has caused us, which left the country without possible financing to carry out the maintenance, repair and new investments that the sector needed.” .

According to Díaz-Canel, for this reason “today we have an accumulated process of technological deterioration, which cannot be resolved in a short time.”

Likewise, the president described as “indecent” those who have taken to the streets to protest against the blackouts.

“Unfortunately, there are people who with vandalism, indecent behavior, lend themselves to these actions,” said the president.

Díaz-Canel also expressed that the energy crisis in the country has been taken advantage of by “the enemies of the Revolution to create discouragement, uncertainty, to call for acts of vandalism, to promote disorder.”
