On November 10, 2022, the US State Department had announced the full resumption in Havana of interviews for all categories of immigrant visas.
The announcement came after a round of talks between US officials and the Cuban regime.
On that occasion, the US authorities explained that the Embassy in Cuba would gradually increase its services based on existing conditions.
“We will continue to evaluate, as conditions allow, further expansion of visa processing in Havana. The consular section of the Embassy in Havana will continue to provide essential services for US citizens and limited processing of emergency non-immigrant visas,” the State Department said at the time.
recently questioned by CubaNet Regarding the status of consular procedures at the United States Embassy in Havana, Benjamin Ziff, Chargé d’Affaires of the northern country on the island, explained that, for the moment, the diplomatic headquarters is focused on family reunification.
“For the United States government, family reunification is paramount. Reuniting Cuban families in the United States is our priority,” said the diplomat in interview published last Wednesday by this newspaper.
