The United States Embassy in Havana reported this Tuesday that it completed the donation of 100 protection modules to the Cuban Fire Department, offered after the serious fire that occurred at the Matanzas Supertanker Base last August.
The charge d’affaires, Benjamin Ziff, wrote on the diplomatic legation’s Twitter profile that “the 100 game donation of protective equipment to the National School of Firefighters”.

The equipment includes helmets, gloves and boots, “to resupply the firefighters after the Matanzas fire and ensure that they are prepared to respond to future fires,” the message details.
The Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossio, had already thanked for the equipment, which began to be delivered by the US embassy on January 13.
The industrial fire in the Matanzas Supertanker Baseconsidered the biggest industrial disaster in the history of Cuba, was caused by an electrical discharge, according to the Cuban authorities.
Its extinction took six days, required the technical collaboration and specialized personnel from Mexico and Venezuela, and left 17 dead -mostly firefighters-, more than a hundred injured and millions in material losses.
At that time, the United States Government, through the Department of State, offered technical advice to combat the enormous fire that affected four crude oil deposits of 50,000 cubic meters each in the industrial zone, something that the authorities of the island.
