US does not rule out extradition requests according to ambassador

Mark Wells, deputy assistant secretary of the United States Department of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Marc Ostfield, ambassador of said country in Paraguay, and Raúl Silvero, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, gave a press conference where they gave details about the meetings held Wells in our country.

The topics discussed revolved around the access of Paraguayan meat products to the United States. In addition to the generalized system of sugar preference and derived topics. They also addressed regional issues, international and global issues that make up the international community.

Marc Ostfield, ambassador of the United States, stated that he does not want to reveal details about how the investigations into acts of corruption will progress. But he clarified that they will use tools such as extradition, visa withdrawal and financial sanctions.

“My priority as ambassador and our priority as a government is to fight corruption and impunity. Designating foreign government officials as significantly corrupt is part of our work to support the Paraguayan system. We are unable to disclose any details beyond those publicly available to avoid interference with ongoing or future investigations,” he commented.

IRANIAN PLANE

When asked about the Iranian-Venezuelan plane that arrived in our country in mid-May and is detained in Argentina for links to organized crime, Ostfield stated that his government is concerned about the situation of the plane and that the talks are taking place between the governments of Argentina and the United States. “I can’t say anything else because it’s a conversation about those two governments. I can say that our priority as an embassy is to work with the Paraguayan government”, he explained.

WELLS

For his part, Mark Wells affirmed that it was his first visit to Paraguay and reported that he had a very frank and pleasant discussion on regional issues. “I thank the country for being a strategic ally, grateful for the support of Paraguay, we had a very fruitful conversation,” he explained.
