MIAMI, United States. – The United States Coast Guard repatriated 38 Cuban rafters this Sunday, reported the entity itself on Twitter.
With this new operation, there are 3,131 Cuban irregular migrants returned to the island from different countries in the region in 2023, according to a note from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT). quoted by EFE.
According to the official Cuban source, the group of migrants returned to the island this Sunday included two minors and five women, one of them pregnant. The rafters, who were crossing the Florida Straits in three different rustic boats, were intercepted at sea by US authorities.
After this repatriation operation ―the number 34 of the current year from the US― there are 2,298 Cuban rafters returned to the country by the Coast Guard of the northern country.
Although to a lesser extent in 2023, migrants from the Island have continued to arrive on the coasts of the United States after the entry into force of the parole of the Biden administration, by which 30,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans should benefit each month.
In the case of the Island, so far some 14,000 Cubans have benefited from this programaccording to the State Department.
