MIAMI, United States. — The United States Border Patrol (CBP) intercepted 42 Cuban rafters who made landfall this Friday in Marquesas Cays, about 30 miles west of Key West.
Walter N. Slosar, chief patrol agent of the Miami Sector, indicated that the migrants arrived at the islands in two artisanal boats.
“42 Cuban migrants were detained by the Border Patrol this afternoon after making landfall in two homemade boats in the Marquesas Keys. There are 19 men, 13 women and 10 minors in the group,” Slosar reported on his Twitter account. Twitter.
Most of the Cuban rafters arriving in US territory are being expeditiously deported to the island after receiving food and rigorous medical attention.
Last Thursday, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) repatriated 88 Cuban rafters who had been intercepted during the week. The migrants were taken to the island by the crew of the Robert Yered coast guard.
The US authorities warned this Friday about the dangers involved in crossing the Strait of Florida in rustic boats and without the conditions required for this type of crossing.
“Miami Sector Border Patrol agents are dealing with maritime smuggling events involving overcrowded and homemade boats coming ashore. These attempts often require multi-agency rescues and are especially dangerous in the summer with hurricane season on the horizon.” Chris Magnuscommissioner of the Border Patrol.
Until yesterday, the number of Cubans intercepted by US agencies amounted to 4,614, figures that correspond to fiscal year 2022, which began on October 1, 2021.
