President Trump announced today, Tuesday, that the US military killed six suspected narcoterrorists in a “kinetic” attack off the coast of Venezuela.
He indicated that the vessel was affiliated with “a designated terrorist organization and was attacked Tuesday morning in the area of responsibility of the United States Southern Command (Southcom).
“Intelligence confirmed that she was trafficking narcotics, was associated with illicit narcoterrorist networks,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“The attack took place in international waters and six narco-terrorists on board the ship were killed.”
No American soldiers were injured in the operation, the president said.
This is the fifth attack that the US military has carried out against suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean Sea in recent months.
The four previous attacks killed 21 people in total, according to administration officials.
The crackdown on alleged drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean Sea comes as Trump has harshly criticized Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, accusing him of being a drug lord and calling him an illegitimate leader.
