Uruit was conceived at a barbecue during a conversation between Marcelo López and Iang Yim, founding partners, who at that time worked for another multinational. Finally, Uruit was founded in 2007 and on December 15, 2021 it moved its offices from Montevideo to Sinergia Faro, located in the former Sheraton hotel building.

The potential of hybrid work
“We no longer think of the office as that place to go every day, but rather as a meeting point, a place where we go to socialize. and where many of us even cancel virtual agendas to have face-to-face meetings for two days and leave space for have a hallway conversation, elbows at a bar or sit in a living room“, said to The Observer Margarita Mangino, Chief Growth Officer of Uruit.
Magino said that in Sinergia Faro the company found a place “ideal” to settle as it has a concept “innovative” and a proposal “different” that “invited to leave home”. A building with a swimming pool, gym, different living rooms that “allow socializing” and that in the future it will have a flat with a nursery.

This decision of the company regarding the location of its offices is a last movement within a hybrid work process that has always been part of the company’s identity. “By working with clients in the United States, having offices in Colombia, even some uruiters (That’s what the company’s workers are called) who had asked us to work from the Philippines because they were going on a trip or people who decided to return to their city in the interior of the country and work 100% remotely, that was well seen by us”, expressed the Chief Growth Officer of Uruit.
According to Mangino, the covid-19 pandemic strengthened that idea that they already had in the company and led to many of the workers who had not yet opted for teleworking and subsequent hybrid regime to test it and incorporate it.
Expansion for 2022
The process of expansion of Uruit began in 2015 with the installation of commercial offices in Los Angeles, United States. Subsequently, the company opened its development offices in Colombia. first in Medellin in 2017 and in Bogota in November 2021. Currently the company It has 150 workers among all these destinations – counting Uruguay – and aims to generate 50 new jobs by 2022.
The company chose Colombia as the first step for its expansion aiming at “get talent faster” taking into account the scarcity that exists in Uruguay. Also, by working exclusively for the United States, they can decide to do it from anywhere in the world.
According to the Chief Growth Officer of Uruit, an audience was found in Colombia “young, eager to grow, committed and with a lively culture that pushes forward, very much in line with the culture of Uruit”. In addition, he highlighted that Colombia is very close to the United States in culture and time zone.
Looking ahead to next year, Uruit seeks expand to another country in Latin America with the idea of continuingbetting on multiculturalism and diversity”. Brazil It is the country they see with the best eyes because “there are already uruiters working there”, so it would be “quite a natural step” but other destinations are not ruled out.

Another important point that will be worked on this year is expansion to the US with a development office since currently they only have a commercial one. “For us, being present in the United States is an important leap to be closer to the client”, he explained.
According to Mangino, a third key objective in Uruit for 2022 is the creation of the position of VP of Innovation and Culturea position that will be pointing to “how to work the culture that is so distributed in different countries” Y “thinking about the innovations that can be made and that can be interesting in terms of welfare for workers”. “The person is always first and we want to be impacting and working on the culture so that we can all have a better quality of life”, he added.
