Exports of goods from Uruguay grew in real terms by US $ 11,549 million, 43% above the values reported in 2021, according to estimates by the Uruguay XXI organization.
If compared to 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase was 25%.
The most exported product compared to 2021 was beef, both due to good prices and demand. Sales of electrical energy and cellulose also shot up in 2021, but there were also significant increases in the sale abroad of meat by-products, soybeans, wood and concentrated beverages.
The main consumer of Uruguayan products is China, which acquired 28% of the goods for a total value of US $ 3,277 million.
Brazil was second with 16%, while the European Union acquired 14%. Then there are Argentina (5%), the United States (5%) and Egypt (4%).
2022 will be calmer
Uruguay XXI predicts that 2022 will have a noticeably more moderate dynamics compared to this year that closed, and they do not expect a strong post-pandemic rebound, although some conditions would prevail.
Exports of goods are expected to increase by just 5%, closing at US $ 12,000 more or less.
