One of the chapters of the annual report refers to the deepening of the access channel to the port of Montevideo. He explained that the ANP has among its objectives the expansion and deepening of the access channel to 14 meters. For this, it has carried out and processed the executive project of the reference work, has hired new searches and studies of soils of the access channel and sent to the Ministry of Transport the environmental studies, background, technical material and project.

Parallel to what is indicated in the annual report, Uruguay has already presented the project to provide greater access to the port of Montevideo before the Administrative Commission of the Río de la Plata (CARP). The Uruguayan delegation presented the formal request to the commission on Thursday, November 3 of last year.

At the beginning of this year it already received the first objections. The Argentine delegation, chaired by Diego Tettamanti, presented a document to the CARP in which he formulated 28 considerations. Uruguay must now submit the requested information.

The Argentine document recalled that while this is pending “the 180-day period provided for the Argentine party to issue an opinion on the project will not begin to run.”
