The Uruguayan ambassador in Argentina, Carlos Enciso, has expressed concern about the impact that a political change in the country could have on Argentine investments. In a recent radio interview, Enciso, who is also a former mayor of Florida, stated that if the Frente Amplio wins the next elections, many Argentine businessmen could rethink bring their investments to the country due to the labor protection policies implemented by the FA in the past.
Specifically, the ambassador referred to the right to strike as a reason for this concern, stating that in the past some companies withdrew from the country due to union problems. However, Enciso also stressed that these policies have been dismantled by the administration of the right-wing government of Luis Lacalle Pou from the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC) and asserts that there is currently a balance between the rights of workers and the interests of capital. “There were companies that left. Not necessarily Argentine, but the Argentine saw that Mexican or Brazilian women were leaving for union reasons. That it is not the normal balance that there must be between the worker and the capital. That today balanced and remained firm, ”he said.
The ambassador also expressed his opinion that the current government and its open attitude are highly valued by Argentine businessmen, and that they are attentive to the evolution of the country. Despite everything asserted, he clarified that Argentine businessmen do not feel uncomfortable with a Frente Amplio government because in the past they were certain about economic policies.
