Between May 18 and 20, Punta del Este will host the first International Tourism Congress, within the framework of the 67th meeting of the Regional Commission of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the Americas, and of the seminar on the International Code for the Protection of Tourists. This was reported by Minister Tabaré Viera on Tuesday 10.
Viera, together with the undersecretary of the portfolio, Remo Monzeglio; the national director of Tourism, Roque Boudean, and the general director of the Secretariat, Ignacio Curbelo, reported on the details of the events that will take place next week at the Enjoy Punta del Este hotel.
The minister pointed out the importance of Uruguay hosting the aforementioned meetings. “Those three days of work we are going to be the center in what has to do with world tourism,” he said.
He reported that ministers and other authorities from 25 countries in the Americas and the UNWTO, headed by its Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili, will participate.
The congress, which will take place on May 18 and 19, within the framework of the 67th Meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas, proposes the reunion of the public and private sectors, as well as the analysis, then of two years of paralysis, of the impacts of the pandemic in the field.
The objective of the seminar, which will take place on May 20, is the exchange of knowledge on the different legal frameworks, adopted by the Governments, that protect tourists affected by emergencies.
