Uruguay will be part of the World Tourism Museum

Uruguay will be part of the World Tourism Museum

Since 2017, different countries around the world have been developing Tourism Museums where they seek to honor those who have participated and left their mark on tourism in each city, country or region and where objects related to the theme are exhibited, such as guides travel, photos, postcards, posters and souvenirs.

The idea arose in Spain in November 2017 and was devised by the current coordinator of the initiative in the world, the Spaniard Alberto Bosque Coello, together with Rafael Guzmán, Javier Mateos de Porras and Raúl García.

The first room to be opened was in Valladolid, Spain, and later rooms were opened in the rest of Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Germany, Japan, India, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and now Uruguay is about to open its first room in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Hotel in Montevideo.

The idea is that these rooms scattered around the world together form a “world museum” referring to the history of tourism.

As Gabriela Mendieta, general manager of the Hotel, explains, the objective of the museum “is to value the people, companies and destinations that over the years have been laying the foundations of the world of travel.”

In addition, he explained that the Museum does not have a single location, but is “extended” and global.

«The headquarters of the Museum is the world and all that place where there is a “room” where objects related to the tourism of that city or country are exhibited. Each room is dedicated to a theme, which is always related to the place where it is located”, explained Mendieta.

There were several Spaniards who celebrated the idea of this museum in Uruguay, such as Pau Morata, professor of Tourism and designated “godfather” of the Hall in Uruguay, who assured that he is “in love” with the country and defined it as his second homeland.

«My relationship with the country dates back several years and I know most of the territory. It is a fantastic destination”, he maintained and indicated that there are many Europeans who want to know and visit the country, for which he highlighted the presence of this new museum so that tourists who come to Uruguay can learn more about the tourist history of the country. .

For his part, the Spaniard Alberto Bosque, coordinator and founder of this initiative in Spain, said that it is “a great joy, an enormous pride and a great satisfaction”, that the first room in Uruguay related to Tourism is opened. “It is a room that collects a little bit of the history of the tourism sector in this country,” said Bosque.

The objective of the Tourism Museum is to value the people, companies and destinations that have been laying the foundations of the world of travel over the years.

In the showcases of each room of the Museum around the world, those who have participated and left their mark on tourism in each city, country or region are remembered and honored.

The opening will take place on July 1 with the presence of the highest national and departmental tourism authorities, as well as tourism organizations and personalities who made history in Uruguayan tourism.
