“In the first quarter of this year, 70,000 jobs have been created, if we compare with the first quarter of last year,” announced the Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche, on the night of Thursday 5, in the Executive Tower. , who also reported that the Government designs measures to seek the recovery of wages and purchasing power of the population.
After participating in a working meeting with the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, Arbeleche said, in statements to the press, that the Executive Branch is working on proposals to maintain the purchasing power of Uruguayans.
He highlighted that a first stage of economic reactivation was passed, after the COVID-19 pandemic, whose focus was the recovery of employment. In this second phase, the government is taking measures to maintain the purchasing power of workers, retirees and the most vulnerable, he explained.
He assured that, together with the economic reactivation, the labor market had a very good response. “In the first quarter of this year, 70,000 jobs have been created, compared to the first quarter of last year,” he reported.
The minister indicated that there are more people working than before the pandemic and that the economic recovery accompanied the reactivation of the labor market.
“The measures taken by the Government have been to increase employment, and we are seeing that and have seen it in these months, and it is confirmed by today’s data,” he asserted. Arbeleche considered that the best social policy is employment.
He added that the State demonstrated throughout the pandemic process to be, absolutely, present, with the duplication of social transfers.
“The whole world has an economic crisis as a consequence of the COVID-19 crisis and the current war in Ukraine (…). The Government’s approach at this time is with the same responsibility, the same presence and the same criterion of social justice that it had throughout the pandemic, ”he concluded.
