The Government of Uruguay is evaluating sending food such as powdered milk and rice to Cuba in the midst of the energy crisis that the island is going through.
This was what the chancellor of that country, Mario Lubetkin, told the press this Thursday at the end of his appearance before the Permanent Commission of Parliament and stressed that his country is trying to “give some help” to this situation.
Lubetkin pointed out that the Government was contacted by United Nations agencies specialized in food issues and that communication is underway.
He clarified, however, that this would be a symbolic gesture and a “sign of solidarity from Uruguay, not with a country or a regime.”
Cuba revives its survival plan from the 90s in the face of the “zero fuel” scenario
Cuba is in the most delicate situation in the last 67 years, when Washington imposed an embargo on the island.
After the US military intervention in Venezuela on January 3, the Government of President Donald Trump managed to block shipments of crude oil and gasoline to the island from Caracas.
After this, the island’s government was left without this essential ally and implemented an emergency plan with restrictions in multiple sectors.
