The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement “where strongly condemns the test launch of a new ballistic missile over Japanese airspace” by North Korea on Tuesday.
“Uruguay renews their rejection of this type of action that constitutes a threat to international peace and security and a clear violation of International Law”, indicates the text issued this Thursday.
The South Korean projectile flew over Japanese airspace and caused the Japanese military authorities to activate their warning system and urge their population to take refuge.
“A ballistic missile is believed to have passed over our country and into the Pacific Ocean. This is an act of violence after recent repeated firing of ballistic missiles. We strongly condemn it,” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida declared and picked up BBC Mundo.
The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry recalled that the attitude of the country led by Kim Jong-un “is in clear contravention of United Nations Security Council Resolutionswhich has demanded that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea the immediate suspension of its nuclear program“.
Uruguay, “in line with its historical commitment in favor of disarmament”, reiterated its call for North Korea to comply with the aforementioned resolutions “in order to guarantee stability and peaceful coexistence among the countries of the region.”
