The Acting Chancellor, Carolina Ache Batlle, met this Monday with Indian secretary Riva Ganguly Das after seven years without holding a Political Consultation Meeting, where they agreed to deepen relations between both countries in the areas “political, commercial, investment, cultural and cooperation.”
According to the statement from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they resolved to hold virtual meetings in the coming months where they will work “in the possible negotiation of a Bilateral Investment Agreement”. In addition, among other topics will be discussed “the conclusion of the sanitary authorizations still pending for products of export interest to Uruguay, such as apples and citrus”.
Both parties agreed “explore new avenues of cooperation in areas such as audiovisual and information technology”. “For it, Acting Minister Ache proposed to India to sign an Agreement between the respective cooperation agencies, that frames the future actions in the matter ”, detailed the communiqué.
As a result of the pandemic, the commemorative activities of the 60 years of diplomatic relations that were fulfilled in 2020 between the two countries were canceled. At Monday’s meeting, the authorities agreed to form a new schedule for next year with events to be held in both India and Uruguay.
