UTE made an agreement with the National Institute of Colonization (INC) framed in the “Uruguay 100% Electric” program, which will allow electricity to be brought to 230 families of settlers in rural areas of the departments of Tacuarembó, Salto, Artigas and Durazno. The process of installing the networks will begin in the northern area, it will involve three years of work. In addition, the delivery of a computer for each family is planned between the remainder of 2022 and 2023.
The objectives of the agreement cover the regularization of the participation of the parties in the execution of infrastructure works for rural electrification, promote development in the productive sectors and improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries, the authorities highlighted.
The president of the UTE, Silvia Emaldi, and the president of the National Colonization Institute, Julio Cardozo, participated in the signing of the agreement, this Wednesday the 15th at the Palacio de la Luz.
Cardozo considered this agreement historic, which will allow 230 settler families to access electricity.
For her part, the president of UTE highlighted the importance of institutional coordination, she also explained that access to electricity will also encourage the settlement of people in rural areas.
The Uruguay 100% Electric program foresees that all the inhabitants have energy at the end of the administration, through the laying of traditional networks or the installation of photovoltaic kits, for the generation of solar energy.
By the end of 2022, UTE will have completed some 700 connections to traditional networks. With 300 photovoltaic kits installed, including the families of settlers benefited by the signing of this agreement. For this, the institute will allocate some 9 million dollars and UTE will provide the engineering, purchases and monitoring of the works, Emaldi said.
