“As of March 31, 50,000 digital portings were registered and, of them, there are 23,000 that were made effective,” said the president of Ursec, Mercedes Aramendía, to the Presidential Communication. She explained that the market showed that there is interest on the part of citizens and that companies have made an effort to approach them and meet their needs, which is visible from offers that benefit society.
Aramendía said, this April 29, that number portability is a right of mobile phone users, who can change operators and keep their numbers. He recalled that this process began in July 2020, after the approval of the urgent consideration law, which led to the work of the Number Portability Committee, since September 2020.
The aforementioned committee is made up of the three mobile phone operators; the Agency for Electronic Government and the Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic), the National Directorate of Telecommunications (Dinatel) and the Regulatory Unit for Communications Services (Ursec).
In January 2022, the Executive Power approved the number portability regulation and, based on this, a call was made and a database administrator was hired, so that the process could be carried out in the best possible way.
Aramendía said that, from the beginning, they always worked with the companies to ensure that the procedure was simple and agile.
He explained that citizens can communicate directly with the company to which they want to transfer their mobile number. This operator, through the database administrator, will carry out the necessary synchronizations and coordination for the change to be configured.
The president of the Ursec affirmed that the organism collaborates actively with the operators and the administrator. “As of March 31, 50,000 requests were registered and, of them, there are currently 23,000 effective portings,” she added.
