His lawyer, Carlos Kauffmann, assured that the decision is due to the preventive detention issued against his client.

“With that attitude, they close any Barata participation that could help them,” he told Agencia EFE. In addition, he pointed out that the arrest order issued by the Peruvian justice system is a “violation” of the bilateral cooperation treaty between Brazil and Peru in the Lava Jato Case.

Likewise, the lawyer announced that they will seek to annul the measure issued against the former director. In addition, he indicated that the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and Interpol will be appealed to seek to prevent Barata from being arrested.

Kauffmann indicated that they will also appeal to the Supreme Court of Brazil so that it annuls the judicial cooperation agreement for the Lava Jato case. In that sense, he indicated that the South American giant offered to provide evidence about Odebrecht, as long as this is not used against Brazilians who collaborate with justice.
