The deputy of the National Assembly (AN) Gustavo Villapol He said that it is necessary to legislate on social networks, not for punitive reasons, but because they represent a problem of sovereignty.
“The Venezuelan State has the responsibility to exercise sovereignty not only in our territory and with the human beings who live in this territory, but also in the digital spectrum. Therefore, we have to legislate on matters of cyberwar, cyberattacks, digital economy and all digital platforms,” Villapol stressed.
The parliamentarian said that digital platforms are being regulated all over the world, “for example, Germany, France, England and the European Union have had legislation on the internet since the 1990s,” he added.
That is why he warned about the urgency of legislating on this matter. “We have to make an effort, especially with what happened after the elections (on July 28), where a group of digital platforms used their batteries against Venezuelan society to try to get us into a civil war.”
Reduce dependency
Villapol also commented on the importance of creating laws to promote the generation of own platforms to avoid dependence on more developed countries, as well as
in other areas.
He proposed that legislation should be passed to promote the development of Venezuelan software and hardware, “so that people can access fun, recreation, the digital economy, matchmaking and happiness in the digital world, but without the contamination of what has been called cyberfascism, which is nothing more than the promotion of hatred of the opposite, of intolerance, of exacerbation, of individualism.”
