The Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Andres Alencastrestated that the urea purchase process is still under negotiation with the supplier company, which will deliver this fertilizer.
In his presentation, he said that it is a first modality of international purchase of urea that followed the recommendations of the Comptroller General of the Republic, to carry out a serious and transparent process, in accordance with the contractual and administrative procedures of law.
“We are in a permanent negotiation (with the winning company that will supply urea) in the due terms, and that are part of the international customs and modalities of this acquisition. We continue talking with the company, which is the third in order of priority, and we continue to define deadlines that we still have to acquire the fertilizer”, he pointed.
He specified that the ongoing process involves the purchase of 65,000 tons of urea to meet the requirements of 260,000 small producers of less than five hectares, and who use this synthetic fertilizer on their crops, which will help guarantee the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign.
“Urea has already designed the acquisition process, its transportation time and its distribution mechanism. But talking about fertilization is not only (using) urea but other (synthetic) components that will reach the crops as a guarantee, that the agricultural campaign is going to come out and that there will be no shortages in the following months in the production in the field “held
Similarly, Minister Alencastre said that the Government in its last session of the Council of Ministers, approved the “Fertibono”, which is an economic collaboration to serve a greater number of producers, who drive up to 10 hectares of crops.
“With this measure, the coverage of crops will be expanded and it will benefit more producers, not only with urea, but they will be able to acquire other fertilizers, such as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, which would be enabling farmers to be able to attend to various crops. We are in the month of fertilization, which is the peak month of the big campaign and therefore, we are on time”, remarked.
