UPM transferred 100 houses to the Ministry of Housing and the municipalities of Durazno and Tacuarembó

The Finnish multinational UPM announced this Friday that it agreed to transfer 100 family houses to the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (MVOT), that will be destined to the municipal administrations of Durazno and Tacuarembó.

The 100 homes they will have one and two bedrooms, will occupy an area of ​​about 50 square meters, reported the cellulose producer. The units have fire walls, a facade covered with galvanized sheet metal, a cementitious floor and projected polyurethane underneath, a new econopanel roof and connections to the sanitation and drinking water network.

“Today the signing of this agreement becomes a reality in which 500 modules will be transformed into 100 decent homes for Uruguayan families, who have seen the unattainable dream of having their own roof. One hundred homes that meet all the quality standards established here at the Ministry. I am deeply grateful to the UPM company, which has understood us perfectly and has been hand in hand with the Ministry to achieve this, which demonstrates a very important social responsibility”, said the Minister of Housing, Irene Moreira.

The houses will be inaugurated in the first quarter of next year, Moreira confirmed. in the act that took place today, Friday, May 20, in which the mayors of Durazno and Tacuarembó, Carmelo Vidalín and Wilson Ezquerra, respectively, also participated.

“The concept with which the projects were planned and executed temporary accommodation allowed to achieve a positive integration of construction workers to the region”, said Gonzalo Giambruno Project Director of UPM.

“Once the work is finished, this modality guarantees us an orderly demobilization, and through this agreement it also allows us to generate permanent quality housing solutions for the departments of Durazno and Tacuarembó,” added the executive.

The amount that the company disbursed for the construction of these houses exceeded US$ 2 million. In addition, two properties in Durazno and Tacuarembó, whose infrastructure was developed by UPM, will be used to “allow the accommodation of workers during the construction phase of the new plant.”

As reported by the Finnish, the construction model used to build these units “It required between 15 and 30% of the construction time compared to a traditional house; and you can build four houses in a week.”

The transfer of these houses is part of the initiative of the current MVOT administration, which intends to land new construction models in Uruguay, with the aim of alleviating the housing deficit in the country that involves between 60 and 70 thousand inhabitants, according to the latest surveys of the portfolio.
