UPM operator died after falling 80 meters and inspector died while analyzing the area

The UPM company issued a statement reporting the death of a foreign worker who fell from a height of approximately 80 meters. According to what they said, the event happened after 9 in the morning when the worker of a contractor company at the construction site of the new pulp mill in Pueblo Centenario, Durazno, fell causing his death on the spot.

The causes are still being investigated, because an inspector from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security who went up to the place where the accident occurred, suffered cardiac arrest and also died. The statement adds that as the investigation progresses, more information will be provided.

“UPM expresses its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased person,” the company said.

From the Ministry of Labor they confirmed to Underlined the death of the inspector and later issued a statement. “The Ministry of Labor and Social Security regrets to inform with deep regret the death of the inspector of Environmental Work Conditions, Eduardo Ezcurra, while he was carrying out tasks at the UPM II plant, in Pueblo Centenario,” the text says and adds: “In this framework, the ministry is carrying out the corresponding actions». In addition, on behalf of the minister Pablo Mieres and other hierarchs of the portfolio, they expressed their “heartfelt condolences to their family, friends and co-workers.”
